ABO Celebrates its 20th Anniversary
For 20 years, the ABO has worked to make public authorities more transparent, accountable, and accessible to the people they serve. The ABO traces its roots to a bipartisan public authority reform effort in the mid-2000s, and has partnered with state and local public authorities to enhance compliance and support informed decision-making by policymakers, authority boards, and the public. Today, the ABO oversees more than 600 state and local authorities, providing data, guidance, and training that help illuminate how these entities operate and serve New Yorkers. In doing so it ensures that key decisions about economic development incentives, debt issuance, and public services are grounded in facts that are readily available to the public. On this anniversary, the ABO reaffirms its commitment to accountability, informed public discourse, and effective governance for the next 20 years.
